Conroe ISD is Getting New Buses!
The generous grant that Conroe ISD received will be used to purchase more buses to replace the oldest ones for the district’s students! This grant from the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality will help Conroe ISD become more environmentally friendly as they purchase “newer models of a similar size that have lower emissions.”
Conroe ISD can afford to purchase 15 buses now and would like to purchase five more buses later. The Texas Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Program grant can “reimburse the district for up to $1,652,792 on new buses,” which can help replace up to 20 buses. The buses that are being replaced are some of the oldest that are still in service dating back to the 1990s and early 2000s.
According to the assistant superintendent of operations, James Kacur, “There are around 130 buses in the fleet currently that do not have air conditioning. All the new CISD buses will have both air conditioning and seat belts.” This means that parents of Conroe ISD students can look forward to their children riding safely in a cool bus in the Houston weather soon!
