Drees Custom Homes Enters Houston Market
Drees Custom Homes has been building luxury homes in Texas for the past 30 years.
The Fort Mitchell, Kentucky-based homebuilder entered the Dallas market in 1984 and Austin in 1998. Today, the company builds about 500 homes a year in Texas.
Now, Drees is taking on Houston.
“Houston makes a ton of sense with all the job growth and a great market,” said David Harbin, president of Drees’ Texas region. “We feel like we can come to Houston with our existing products and systems and do really well.”
Founded in 1928, Drees is a family-owned and operated company with operations in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Washington, D.C. The company was ranked the 23rd largest homebuilder nationally by Builder magazine.
In recent years, Drees has focused on the fast-growing "move-up" segment of the housing market, catering to veteran home buyers who are moving up to a larger house. In Texas, the company has built traditional homes as well as country, patio and villa-style homes with customizable floor plans and high-end designs.
Drees will start by building in three master-planned communities located in the Houston suburbs. The homebuilder is under contract for nearly 100 lots in Richmond/Rosenberg, The Woodlands and Tomball. The company plans to expand in the future.
“We want to grow our presence in Houston,” Harbin said. “How fast we can grow depends on the market. But I could easily see Houston become our biggest market. It won’t happen overnight though.”
