Gerald D. Irons, Sr. Football and Leadership Development Camp to teach lifelong lessons
Former NFL great, education, community and business leader announces the Gerald D. Irons, Sr. Football and Leadership Development Camp. The two-day camp offers three different dates throughout the summer:
--June 5 & 6 at Gerald Irons Junior High School
--July 10 & 11 at The Woodlands College Park High School
--August 14 & 15 at Gerald Irons Junior High School
“As a former NFL player, father and someone with a passion for education, I have seen too many football camps focusing only on skill drills," said Irons. "We will focus on what it takes to become a great player and developing a young man for life, such as good grades, leadership, character and life skills. What I plan for this Camp are the same disciplines I hold for myself and I instilled in my three sons. All three attended Division I Colleges, served as team captains, leaders and graduated with college degrees. I have a great family, career and have achieved many accomplishments, but creating this Camp has been a life long dream of how I can give back.”
"The football field will be my classroom and the game is my vehicle to teach lifelong lessons by creating memorable experiences and having fun. Camp Participants will learn to be the best student-athletes, with the power to take control of their own destiny. It is the mission of our Camp to build character, develop a work ethic, leadership skills, self-discipline, teamwork and a commitment to excellence. Our purpose is for Camp Participants to pursue excellence and become great leaders. We will always prepare, practice and play to win on the field, in the classroom and in the game of life. We will learn to never lose. We will always either win or learn," said Irons.
“College Park High School is excited to be hosting the Gerald D. Irons, Sr. Football and Leadership Development Camp. This event will offer our young men the opportunity to grow as football players and more importantly as leaders. Lessons will be taught on and off the field. The skills of life will be taught along with football skills. The Camp will be led by Gerald D. Irons, Sr., who has been a leader in our community for many years. Along with being a great football player, he has led in many areas. He is a respected businessman, former CISD School Board Member, father, husband and a man of integrity," said Coach Richard Carson, College Park High School.
Gerald D. Irons, Sr., former NFL Linebacker who played 10 years with the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns. He was named an “Oakland Raiders Legend” and is listed among the “100 Greatest Cleveland Browns” of all times. He was named to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
