Local Highlight: Downtown Conroe Jewelry Shop Celebrates 90 Years in Business!
This week’s local highlight celebrates Brownlee Jewelers located at the corner of Simonton and Main streets in downtown Conroe! Brownlee Jewelers was established in 1932, as a counter in the Brownlee family’s pharmacy across the street from its current location. In 1951, the family opened a brick-and-mortar store at 201 Simonton St., where the business stands today.
Although the original owner, Pinky Brownlee, passed away in 1988, he has left the shop in great hands with Janice Parish. Parish began working in the shop fresh out of high school in 1981. Brownlee recognized her potential and funded Parish’s gemology education in California at the Gemological Institute of America. Parish, whose family could not afford college on their own, called Brownlee a “godsend” and said she loved her coursework.
Owner Janice Parish is GIA Graduate Gemologist and continues the Brownlee family tradition of providing high-quality craftsmanship and ethical business practices.
Brownlee Jewelers is known for its custom wedding jewelry, fine jewelry, and designer watches.
Here is to another 90 years!!
