Soon the doctors of Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands will have a new tool in their toolbox in their fight against breast cancer. The doctors will soon begin using the radioactive seed localization procedure as they prepare breast cancer patients for surgery. While the technology is not new, it is a more comfortable option for the patient coming to Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands. When the Breast Care Center opened in 2017, doctors there knew there had to be a better way than using the guide wire technique that was both stressful and difficult. The Breast Care Center opened last year using the SaviScout procedure which uses radio frequencies and required no wires. The SaviScout technology was about the size of a biopsy clip and the patient could have it inserted and then return to the hospital at a later time for the removal of their breast tumor.
