Oak Ridge High Students Named All-State Musicians
The Texas Music Educators Association has named eight All-Staters from Oak Ridge High School!
Oak Ridge High has an All State Bassist in Orchestra who received this recognition two years in a row! The Orchestra department is directed by the talented, Ms. Mindy Florian. The War Eagles’ Band has five All-State Musicians who are led by Band Director, Mr. Jerriald Dillard. Oak Ridge’s Choir has two All-State Choir Members who are directed by Mrs. West and Mr. Kang.
Being recognized as an All-Stater by the TMEA is an honor that comes with great responsibility. To be eligible for consideration, students have many requirements to meet before auditioning for a spot. Students must be full-time at their campuses and “certified by their TMEA Active Member director as a participating member of the school’s parent musical organization.” In addition to this, students “must have been in attendance and have passed the number of courses required by the University Interscholastic League for extracurricular participation." Students must also be in good academic standing as the TMEA activities are considered extracurricular.
