Shadow Bend YMCA Offers A Virtual Learning Center
Virtual school is back in session leaving many working parents searching for assistance. The guidelines for virtual learning are much more rigid than when schools abruptly ended in the spring.
In order to fill the gap, the YMCA of Greater Houston announced the opening of select Y Learning Centers. The safe and structured environment provides certified teaching staff to assist students with their individual virtual learning experience. Learning Centers will follow all safety guidelines such as mandatory masks, frequent hand washing and social distancing.
Shadow Bend YMCA is just one of the Houston area YMCAs offering this beneficial service. The Learning Center hours are 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. with aftercare available until 6 p.m. The students will interact and learn in a small group setting with a 1:9 staff-to-teacher ratio. YMCA teachers will be trained in all needed virtual platforms required by area schools.
Students are encouraged to bring their own technology and supplies needed to access their learning. Parents can choose from a half-day session, half-day enrichment session or an all-day program. The following are program costs and financial assistance may be available:
- Registration Fee: $35 per child (one-time fee)
- Academic Session 8 - 11 a.m.: $25 per child per day
- Enrichment Session 12 - 3 p.m.: $20 per child per day
- Aftercare 3 - 6 p.m.: $15 per child per day
- Full Day 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.: $60 per child per day
