2013 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas set for May 18

The 2013 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas will be held Saturday, May 18, in The Woodlands.

Athletes will begin with a 2.4-mile swim in Lake Woodlands. The 112-mile bike course takes participants west through the scenic, rolling farmland of east Texas. The day ends with a 26.2-mile run taking place entirely within The Woodlands and concluding with a spectacular finish on Waterway Ave.

The pro start is set for 6:50 a.m. with a 7 a.m. start for age groups.

CB&I Tri draws record number

This Saturday, May 4, will mark the 10th Anniversary of the CB&I Tri – The Woodlands Triathlon with a record number of athletes expected to participate.

More than 1,200 people, including nearly 500 Woodlands residents, will participate in the race that centers around Northshore Park, located 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive. The event, which sold out in a record 24 days, is produced by The Woodlands Township with title sponsor CB&I and will start at 6:45 a.m.

The Woodlands CrawPHish Festival This Weekend

Harper's Preserve residents - it's crawfish season and this Saturday, March 23 is The Woodlands CrawPHish festival from 11 am to 6 pm.

The Woodlands CrawPHish Festival was created to raise awareness for Pulmonary Hypertension, hence the “PH” in the name, and money to find a cure.  The festival is hosted annually in Town Green Park for a day of family fun with live music, kids activities, authentic Louisiana crawfish, BBQ (for those that do not care for crawfish), networking and more.

Hummingbird lecture by noted author and nature photographer

Mark Klym, coordinator of Texas Hummingbird Roundup and co-author of "Hummingbirds of Texas," shares the delight of gardening for hummingbirds at "Where Have All the Hummingbirds Gone?," at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at McCullough Junior High School, 3800 S. Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands.

By mid-March hummingbirds, on their northern migration, start appearing in our area to rest and refuel. In addition to the often-sighted ruby-throated hummingbird, many lesser known species also visit East Texas landscapes.

The Woodlands Continues Fast Paced Growth

The Woodlands and South Montgomery County continued to experience growth in 2012.

Population in The Woodlands grew by nearly 4,400 people while enrollment in Conroe ISD rose more than 3,100. Conroe ISD spokeswoman Lisa Meeks said the district’s enrollment increase was a trend in 2012 she expects to continue as Montgomery County grows. “Conroe ISD is one of the fastest growing districts in the state,” Meeks said. “With low tax rates, high achieving schools, and many career opportunities, people want to live in Montgomery County.”
